How a percent-off price is calculated

Savings first, then the final price. Both amounts are rounded to the nearest cent.

The two numbers

  1. Savings = original × (percent off ÷ 100), rounded to the nearest cent.
  2. Final price = original − savings, also rounded to the nearest cent.

A worked price

Original $80, 25% off. Savings = $20.00. Final price = $60.00. 50% off $19.99 is $10.00 savings and a $9.99 final — the extra hundredth sits on the savings after rounding.

Two discounts in a row

A 20% off then another 10% off is not 30% off the original. Run the first percent, then use that final price as the next original. The tool has one percent field, so you do the second pass yourself.
